A Culture of Safety, Not Just Policies

Community First, Safety Always

Safeguarding & Risk Management

At Phum Journeys, safeguarding is not a checklist, it is a way of working.
We believe meaningful learning happens only when participants feel safe, respected, and supported. This belief shapes how our programs are designed, led, and delivered, and guides every interaction with students, communities, and partners.
Our safeguarding and risk management approach is grounded in care, clear boundaries, accountability, and continuous reflection.

Risk Management in Practice
Our risk management approach is proactive and contextual, not reactive. Before and during each program, we:
  • Conduct risk assessments for activities, locations, and travel
  • Adapt programs based on group needs, age, and experience
  • Provide clear briefings before activities and transitions
  • Maintain flexible plans that prioritize wellbeing over schedules
We believe good risk management allows learning to happen with confidence, care, and responsibility.
Clear Safeguarding Standards

Pum Journeys operates in line with internationally recognized safeguarding principles and best practices, including those commonly required by international schools and educational institutions.

Our approach includes:

  • A clear Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct
  • Zero tolerance for abuse, exploitation, or harassment
  • Defined boundaries for appropriate behavior and relationships
  • Clear reporting and response procedures
  • All staff, guides, and facilitators are expected to understand, uphold, and model these standards at all times.
Working With Schools & Families

Pum Journeys works closely with schools and educators to ensure safeguarding expectations are aligned.

We are committed to:

  • Transparent communication with partner schools
  • Sharing safeguarding documentation when requested
  • Adapting procedures to meet institutional requirements
  • Ongoing dialogue before, during, and after programs

Parents and guardians can trust that duty of care remains central throughout every journey.

Emotional Safety & Wellbeing
We recognize that immersive learning can be challenging as well as rewarding. Our programs intentionally include:
  • Regular group check-ins and one-on-one conversations
  • Space for reflection, rest, and emotional processing
  • Mindful facilitation and attentive listening
  • Respect for individual comfort levels and boundaries
Students are encouraged to speak openly, and support is always available
